The Problem
Aba, known as the manufacturing hub of Nigeria, struggled with limited online visibility for its locally-made products. Thousands of skilled artisans and manufacturers lacked a unified platform to reach customers beyond their immediate locality. Buyers across Nigeria and internationally had difficulty accessing authentic 'Made in Aba' products. My client, Abamade.ng, needed a robust e-commerce platform to bridge this gap and put Aba's craftsmanship on the global map.
My Approach
Designed and built a large-scale e-commerce platform using Next.js 14 and TypeScript for optimal performance and scalability. Implemented comprehensive product categorization for shoes, bags, clothing, furniture, and other Aba-made goods. Created a vendor onboarding system enabling local manufacturers to list products easily. Built advanced search and filtering with category browsing, price ranges, and product ratings. Integrated Paystack for seamless Nigerian payment processing supporting cards, bank transfers, USSD, and mobile money. Developed a logistics module with integration for major Nigerian delivery services. Implemented multi-language support and currency conversion for international customers. Created seller dashboards with analytics, inventory management, and order tracking. Used AWS S3 for product image storage and CloudFront CDN for fast image delivery across Nigeria and globally.
The Result
Successfully launched as the biggest online sales platform in Abia State and Aba city. Onboarded 500+ local manufacturers and artisans in the first year. Platform now showcases 10,000+ authentic 'Made in Aba' products across multiple categories. Processed over ₦250 million in transactions within the first 18 months. Enabled 60% of vendors to reach customers outside Abia State for the first time. International orders now account for 25% of total sales, bringing global recognition to Aba products. Platform achieved 99.8% uptime and handles 5,000+ daily visitors. Customer satisfaction rating of 4.7/5 with 95% reporting high product quality. Successfully positioned Aba as a premier manufacturing destination and helped preserve traditional craftsmanship while connecting it with modern e-commerce.
